Renowned scholar and analyst, Dr. Javed Jamil has called for "an end to the cold war between Saudi Arab and Iran in order to preserve the unity of the Islamic World" He was delivering a lecture on the "Iraqi Turmoil and Implications" at Jamaat-e Islami Hind headquarters, New Delhi. He said that the current situation in Iraq is highly confusing with no clear distinction between the right and the wrong. "On the one hand, there is ISIS which has varying reputation ranging between being ruthless terrorists and an organization committed to Islamic values", he said, "and on the other hand is a democratically elected government, which has failed to keep the sectarian biases under check."

 

Dr. Jamil said that in between the on-going power struggle within Iraq, the role of foreign powers cannot be ignored. He blamed America for being ultimately responsible for the situation in Iraq, a country which it occupied for more than a decade. He said that with the total failure of America's policy in Syria, it could not see an Iranian influence growing in the region. With Iraqi government coming closer to Iran,America felt an urgent need to weaken Iraq in order to safeguard its own interests and the interests of its ally Israel. "The US is playing a double game," he said, "On the one hand it is helping ISIS by not taking any actions against it, and on the other hand it is pressuring the government in the name of inclusive government." Dr Jamil argued that America is a friend of neither ISIS nor the Iraqi government, and is only interested in fomenting Sunni-Shia hatred in order to weaken the Islamic world. He asked "why ISISis being labeled as a Sunni Terrorist organization while al-Qaedah was labeled an Islamic terrorist organization in the wake of the Twin Tower attack". He argued that "with total failure of American invasions in Afghanistan and Iraq and the failure to topple Syrian regime, America has now shifted its strategy from wars to civil wars."

Dr. Jamil blamed Muslims also for the crisis and lambasted those who still talk in sectarian terms. He said that it is highly unfortunate that Saudi Arab and Iran continue to be each other's enemy. He called for an immediate end to the cold war between the two countries. "Without a long lasting truce between these two countries, the Western designs in the Islamic world cannot be thwarted," he said with huge emphasis in words and tone. On being asked "what is the way out to foment disunity within Muslim Ummah", he said that "the real solution lies in finding the true and larger aim of Islam, which is to bring peace to the whole mankind". He argued that the New World Order put in place by the dominant world powers seek to hegemonies the world "through commercialization of human weaknesses, and the time has now come when all the religions and sects recognize this reality". He called for "all religions to unite against the New World Order, which wants to banish religion because religious moral values and family values are a big threat to their economic policies." He said that West has no problem with Islam, if it is limited to theological practices but they become aggressive as soon as some Islamic forces want to implement the social code of Islam which prohibits alcohol, sexual immoralities, abortions, gambling and usury.

Dr. Jamil stressed the need to differentiate between West and Westernism. "We need to try to be close to Western people but we have to initiate a total ideological onslaught against Westernism, which seeks to make money through the commercialization of problems as well as commercialization of solutions."
