The story of Adam, Iblees and Allah in the Quran has a moral background for us human beings, especially Muslims.

Do not practice the following sins:

1) Envy:

Iblis, who was created from fire,  was envious about Adam being created for dust and Allah asking to submit and bow to Adam.

2) Pride:

Pride overtook Iblis, although Iblis was gifted with knowledge.  Pride overtook him because he thought that he had reached the stage of the most educated one in knowledge when Allah created Adam from dust he was overwhelmed with envy and pride.

3) Jealousy:

Once when envy and pride overtook Iblis he was consumed with jealousy.  This jealousy lead Iblis to argue with Allah about his superiority and his refusal to obey Allah's command to submit or bow down to Adam.  Envy, pride and jealousy lead Iblis to disobey

Allah's command.  Banishment followed for Iblis and his followers from Heaven, life being trial on earth became part of Allah's plan

for all humanity.  Anger, lust, gluttony, sloth became the preaching of Iblis or Shaitan for humans to stop them from following Allah's commands.

Hence today every Faith teaches that 7 deadly sins should be avoided.  Allah guides all humanity towards goodness, love, compassion and forgiveness.  Today Muslims should renew these basic principles and study the Quran in the light of their GLOBAL CRISIS.

A complete study of The Quraan makes it abundantly clear that The purpose of creating  Aadam and His progeny  at initial stages was to give them the  honour thru authority in this world as a passing stage by giving them choices and to make them earn the ultimate pleasure of The Creator and His gift of Jannah,  thru sacrifice, submission & responsibility. 

Therefore, in order to fulfil that purpose, The Creator ordered all the other Creatures including the Jinn Iblees to submit to Aadam by Bowing. 

It could be literal as well as implied to suggest that, you all are now subordinate to Aadam and His Progeny. 

Everybody submitted, except Iblees who was given free will as well because He was Jinn and was made of fire. 

He was created before Aadam as well, therefore, He probably expected the honour will be His as vicegerent, But The Creator had a different design, to pass the honour to Aadam, Iblees could not digest this and refused the subordination, assuming and stating that he is "superior/better"!! 

Forgetting/neglecting the fact that it is the order of The Creator. 

So, Instead of following the orders and submitting, He chose to become  boastful, arrogant,  haughty, unnecessarily proud, greedy. Knowingly neglecting the orders, the consequences of it and choosing the anger & wrath Of The Most Merciful The Creator. 

Now, since humans also inherit almost the same traits of good/bad and the free will to choose whatever, some or quiet a few make the wrong choices of becoming haughty/boastful/arrogant by denying the fact that there is The Creator for and above everything. They arrogantly call themselves Agnostics/Atheists/Buddhists/Communists/Capitalists/Socialists/menists/Feminists etc., 

Instead of accepting the fact that, They are here as responsible and humble human beings,  by accepting HIM as The Creator and The sustainer and abiding by HIS orders and Commands to earn HIS pleasure instead of anger. 

Ultimately passing into the next phase of life of ever happiness and free of ill feelings in the Jannah or Paradise.

(O iblees) what stoped you from sajda when I ordered "you". he replied i am better than this (man) ...

what i think is he could have two answers, one that he gave, other he could say that i dont like to do sajda for anyone other than Allah. but to reveal his takabbur Allah asked him.

How Iblees was adressed with Angles when Quraan tells us that angels were made from light, whereas Jinns were made from fire. And Iblis several times in the Quran tells he is made from fire – he was a Jinn.
