Labor rates and inflation are on the rise in China. The internal costs of hiring, training and retaining professional staff have increased over 10% year after year in the past 5 years. Of course, geography plays an important role in that. There are many companies that had opened offices in China and hired people to work for them but it is very expensive. We have broken China into three Tiers. Tier I is the costal area and the south where there has been early success but it has become very expensive to source there. We still do business in those area when cost is not the make issue. We have moved a lot of our business into the Tier II area of China. This is the inland area. Where a few years ago it was more difficult to manufacture there because there wasn't infrastructure in place to move the product from the manufacture to the port. Now there is very efficient infrastructure in place so it is very easy to more products from manufacture to port. The only problem is skilled labor. They are still in the Tier I area but when you are manufacturing labor-intensive low-tech products it is more than adequate and is much less expensive to move the manufacturing to Tier II areas. Do you know people who follow the following Scenario? They want to find a trustworthy China manufacturer. They look at an Internet search engine like Alibaba, and then email some of the advertisers that have a nice website. After all, if the advertiser has a nice website, the company must be trustworthy, right? How do you know that their hard-earned money won't be sent to some China manufacture from which they'll never hear from again? Or that the product they ordered would be shipped according to the design and specifications they wanted or if the product will be shipped at all?
